 Maiden NGO conclave held at Handwara

Handwara Feb 27: Despite the progress made in the field of social development, challenges faced by Kashmir are complex and persistent, requiring concerted efforts from multiple stakeholders. NGOs play a critical role in this effort. 


‘NGOs Conclave’ is a platform to bring together various NGOs to engage in meaningful discussions aimed at addressing the pressing social and economic challenges faced by Kashmir. ”NGO CONCLAVE - 2023”, the first ever convention in Kashmir, was organised at Environmental Hall, Handwara under Army Camp Bhagatpura in collaboration with Centre for Research on Public Policy (CRPP) to provide a unique opportunity for NGOs to network, exchange ideas &  best practices and forge partnerships and help them to have a greater impact in the region.


 The conclave brought together various community ldrs and govt officials including Mr Nazir Ah Mir ADC Handwara,  Mr Sulaiman Mir, DDC Rajwar, Mr Masroor Banday, Municipal Chairman Handwara, youth leaders, representatives from district hospital & public banks, principals and teachers from school & colleges, sarpanch & ward members and local population.


A total of 35 NGOs  across Kashmir attended the mega event.


The Conclave helped in achieving the following goals 


Bringing together NGOs working in different sectors, promoting cross-sector collaboration 


Building partnerships with other organisations, governments and stakeholders


Identifying solutions for common challenges faced by NGOs


Identifying solutions for pressing social, environmental and humanitarian issues.


 Focus on aspects like funding, partnerships, capacity building and impact assessment 



The opening remarks was given by Mr Nazir Ahmad Mir ADC Handwara. It was followed by discussion on ‘Issues at hand’ by community leaders, Introduction to NGOs, discussion on best practices & success stories, Brainstorming & Networking session. The conclave concluded with the  Felicitation of NGOs and closing remarks by Municipal Committee Chairman Mr Masroor Banday


NGO Conclave was aimed at strengthening the role of NGOs in promoting a positive change in communities and in advancing sustainable development. The outcome of the conclave was a set of recommendations or action plans for initiatives to tackle social, economic & environmental issues and collaboration among participating NGOs.
