Aseem XI Lifts Kargil Vijay Diwas Women’s Cricket Tournament at Lolab

KUPWARA: As part of Kargil Vijay Diwas Rajat Jayanti Mahotsav, Women Cricket Friendly matches are being organised by Indian Army alongwith Aseem Foundation, Pune from 08 to 12 October 2023 at Sopore, Chandigam and Hajin. These matches are receiving overwhelming response across Kashmir. The first match was played between Aseem Eleven and Sopore Thunder Strikers at Subhana Stadium, Sopore. In a keenly contested match Aseem XI were put to bat first & they set up a target of 99 runs. Sopore Thunder Strikers emerged victorious by Five wickets.
In the second match of the thrilling cricket tournament on 10 Oct 2023, Aseem Eleven won the toss and elected to field first, putting Lolab Strikers to bat. The Lolab Strikers displayed a formidable performance, setting a challenging target of 65 runs for Aseem XI to chase. However, it was the Aseem IX's exceptional teamwork and strong performance that ultimately led them to victory, as they successfully fought their total to emerge triumphant in a closely contested match.The sporting spirit and support displayed by the spectators is testimony to the rich culture and encouragement to women in sports across Kashmir.
This unique endeavour has sent a strong signal of ‘Women Empowerment’ for women cricketers of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir who showcased their talent and standards to all. Players and locals hailed the efforts of the Indian Army and Aseem Foundation, Pune and urged them to organise similar tournaments in future as well, as such tournaments would encourage the local players and help them to compete at National level.
The Chief Guest for the event was Commanding Officer, 28 Rashtriya Battalion Col Anupam Hajela witnessed and motivated cricket teams, fostering their excellence at both local and national levels, thanks to the collaborative support of the Indian Army. The organisers, participating teams & spectators paid their heartfelt tribute to the bravehearts of the Kargil War. The event was attended by Civil dignitaries, Government officials and large number of PRIs, youth, and students and locals from the adjoining areas of Lolab.
