Ending a Decade of Water Scarcity, Lower Rajwar Project Nears Completion, 25,000 Residents to Benefit

Handwara, Aug 5: After remaining pending for nearly a decade, the much-awaited Lower Rajwar Raw Water Main Project in Handwara is nearing completion, with trial testing currently underway. Officials said the project is expected to be commissioned later this week, bringing much-needed relief to around 25,000 residents across 13 villages.


The project, being executed by the PHE Division Handwara/Baramulla under the supervision of Executive Engineer Aijaz Ahmad, involves the laying of a 9-kilometre-long, 200-mm diameter Ductile Iron (DI) Raw Water Main connecting the water source to the filtration plant and service reservoir.


Once commissioned, the scheme will ensure an improved and reliable drinking water supply to approximately 25,000 people living in Dudipora, Baki Aker, Baderhar, Budkot, Machipora, Khirman, Nabedzab, Nagranar, Baderkali, Bahadarpora, Gori Aker, Wadipora and Lachipora villages.




Officials said the project has entered its final testing phase and will soon be made operational, significantly strengthening the drinking water infrastructure across the Rajwar belt.


Welcoming the development, local resident Ghulam Hassan said the project had remained incomplete for nearly 10 years despite repeated public demands.


“We are delighted that this long-pending project is finally becoming a reality. Since Executive Engineer Aijaz Ahmad took charge, the pace of work has accelerated, and the project has now reached completion. It is a major relief for the people of Rajwar,” he said.


Another resident, Gowhar Ahmad, appreciated the department's efforts and urged the authorities to expedite the completion of other pending drinking water schemes in the region.


“We appeal to the authorities, particularly Executive Engineer Aijaz Ahmad, to ensure that the remaining water supply projects are completed at the earliest so that more villages can benefit from safe and reliable drinking water,” he said.


The commissioning of the Lower Rajwar Raw Water Main Project is expected to resolve the long-standing drinking water crisis in the area and substantially improve access to safe and dependable water for thousands of residents.
